The city of Varna lies in the Bay of Varna
and is one of the oldest Bulgarian cities. It
is the biggest sea port and one of the
favorite holiday places. Numerous hotels,
restaurants and night clubs make it a
preferable seaside center. Summer is fresh
and pleasant because of the breezes and
the wide beach strip attracts thousands of
tourists. The city lies in the bay of Varna
and is 11 km long. The city`s structure
resembles an amphitheatre as it follows
the curves of the Bay of Varna. Its
population is about 400 000 people.
Gardens, forests, vineyards surround the
city and shelter a lot of private houses and
hotels.
In the city you can visit many places of
interest. The Archeological Museum
disposes of exhibits, dating from
prehistoric times- Thracian, Greek,
Roman- mainly from the ancient Odessos.
It this museum is exhibited the oldest
golden treasure found in Europe dating
since 4000 BS. In the Sea garden there is a
Museum of the Black Sea and an Aquarium
with interesting exposition of the
Bulgarian seaside flora and fauna, the zoo
you where can see various exotic animals,
the Dolphin hall and the aquarium. The
outskirts of the city are favourite places
for picnics and strolls- a district of Vinitsa
with forests around it, a district of
Asparuhovo with the bridge and the place
called Dzanavara where you can also see a
basilica from the early Christian period, a
district of Galata with a high rocky cape
above the sea. At 20 km from Varna is the
Fossil forests- one of the most attractive
geographical sightseeing.
