We have lived in our beautiful and quirky half cave, half above ground
house for 6 years now. It is situated in Ortahisar on the edge of a
UNESCO Heritage site about 3 kilometers from Goreme, 5 kilometers
from the market town of Urgup. Until recently Ortahisar was a small
quiet working town now, becoming more vibrant and prosperous
through tourism.

Cave houses in the area are being restored and converted to Boutique
hotels and restaurants.
Minutes from our door is the most magnificent countryside with ruins
of hidden and and not so hidden painted Byzantine churches, so-called
fairy chimneys and numerous stunning walks.
Restoration work has been carried out on the house and woodwork
inside and out crafted by local carpenters/designer.
The house comprises 10 rooms including in the lower part of the house
one bathroom 4 restored rooms in use as a sitting room, guest
bedroom, man-cave study, dressing room. Store room.
Upper house: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, studio sitting room coal
and wood storage room.
The house has three terraces with very special views overlooking the
Hisar.

Our property is a quirky cave house in Cappadocia. In the lower cave
part of the house there are 4 cave rooms and a bathroom and a
storeroom. In the Upper house, 4 rooms including a kitchen and
bathroom. There are 3 terraces, one adjoined to the lower cave room
which we call the book room, another is attached to the upper studio
bedroom and the other terrace overlooks the valley. The house has
recently been restored and is made of local stone.
We are situated on the edge of a Beautiful and historical UNESCO
Heritage site of fairy chimneys, Byzantine cave churches and fantastic
trails with underground cities going as far back as the Hittite
Civilization and beyond.
