The Land / Project

It is a land with an approved project for the construction of a building with five floors for collective
housing, consisting of five apartments: one T1, three T2 and one T3 duplex.
The project, developed by the architectural firm SUAVE, in charge of the architect Paulo Rodrigo,
has peculiar characteristics, of which the following stand out:
. the two elevations are practically the same, looking as if the definitions of the front and rear have
been canceled;
. both elevations are enhanced by the design of a generous balcony, which is more commercially
attractive, and adapting the intervention to the new living spaces in the city that are more open to
the outside;
. each floor is divided into two different levels, gaining a social area and a private area, allowing
one to enjoy a greater relationship with the space.

The Castles Project is approved by the Porto City Council and the work can start immediately.
Localization:
The project that will be born is located near Quinta da Prelada facing two streets: Travessa da
Prelado and Rua dos Castelos.

It is a quiet area, but very close to the city center, with the motto:
“Living Porto Away from City Agitation”.
Framework
The name of Rua dos Castelos is inspired by the coat of arms of the Noronha de Menezes Mesquita
e Melo family, family from the city of Porto, to which Quinta da Prelada belonged. In this street you
can find several granite sculptures of castles that lead us to the Palácio da Prelada. This palace
was designed by the architect Nicolau Nasoni in the middle of the 18th century. Here is a fantastic
garden, with fountains, ponds and a gigantic boxwood maze, very typical of the Baroque era,
planted in 1758. Casa da Prelada was donated by the family to Santa Casa da Misericórdia and was,
until the middle of the decade eighty, used for health treatments. At this time, since it was already
very small, the Hospital da Prelada was built.
At this moment, the Casa da Prelada can be visited, in which there is a historical archive with more
than 500 years.
It is in this beautiful environment, full of history, that the Castles Project emerges.
