Living in Australia, we have used the historical and beautiful Maastricht penthouse (4 stories, excluding ground) as a pied-à-terre in Europe.
Maastricht is in Central Europe with Belgian and German borders on both sides. Paris is four hours away by train.
Constructed on the city wall of Maastricht, the penthouse itself is a 13th-century historical landmark. The facade is decorated with colorful tiles in the style of Jugendstil.
The ground, first, and second floors are adorned with golden ram and sheep heads. It resembles a small castle in the city because of the two towers on the roof.
Its central location offers a broad perspective of the city hall and market. The penthouse outside has a 50 m² covered gate that can be used to store motorbikes or scooters, as well as a locked 4 m² closet for storing bicycles.
We kept a private terrace for drinks and barbecue in the back, against the 1232 City Wall.
A charming library on the first floor leads to a traditional bar that is bounded by the city wall of 1232 and extends to the left.
The balcony in the living room to the right of the library offering a close-up view of all the public events that take place in Maastricht, such as bike races, carnival parades, and marathons.
The second floor has an eat-in kitchen, a scullery, a bathroom with a storage closet, and a dining room overlooking the market.
The fourth floor has a study/bedroom with views of Maastricht, while the third floor has two bedrooms, a sauna, a steam cabin, and a toilet.
City Hall`s classification of the property is advantageous for both residential and commercial purposes.
In conclusion, we wouldn`t sell the lovely house if we were younger.
