Funzi Island Airport, with one
runway: 1/19. The airport is
located at latitude -4.57378 and
longitude 39.44707. This airport
has no ICAO code, and KE-0115 is
used as reference. Nearby other
airfields are Lunga-Lunga Airport,
Ukunda Airstrip, Lunga-Lunga
Airport, Kwale Airport, and Moi
International Airport.
Funzi consists of four mangrove
covered islands where Funzi Island
is the largest. There are also
numerous inlets and small creeks
into the mangroves which provide
for glassy calm waters, and
brilliant opportunities for creek
fishing and bird watching. The
island is also close to the Pemba
Channel - arguably Kenya’s best
location for deep-sea fishing.
Funzi Island is acknowledged as
one of the best nesting site for a
variety of endangered sea turtles,
such as green turtle, hawksbill, and
leatherback. Their significant
presence is due to a very low
degree of human disturbance.
Presence of sand banks during low
tide has become a massive
attraction! For 3 hours, tourists and
locals can enjoy parties, picnics…
