Macerata Feltria rises in the heart of Montefeltro, between the regional natural park of

The old town sinks its roots in the 3rd century b. C. when the Romans founded the
important centre Pitinum Pisaurense destroyed by the Pelasgi in 500 a. C. In the very same
place, often using the material of the pre-existing buildings, S.Cassiano’s parish church and
the town tower, which dominates Macerata Feltria today, were built.
All the surrounding valley with a panoramic view of spectacular effect can be admired from
the top of this tower.
The present appearance of Macerata Feltria is emblematic of several Italian medieval small
towns; it is divided into two parts: the ancient and dominant Castle and the lower and more
recent Borgo.
The modern Macerata Feltria has developed around its Borgo and has become an important
centre, the main town of the district.
Monasteries, churches, museums and other important buildings are witnesses to the long
history of Macerata Feltria and make it an ideal holiday resort.
The town museum founded in 1995 is located in a XIV century palace and collects
archaeological and palaeontological finds of the Montefeltro.
In the town centre rises the Pitinum Spa, which utilising sulphurous water, offers modern
and efficient therapeutic applications.
