Inari is the largest municipality in Finland and it was established in 1876. It has a surface area of 17,321 km², of which 2,148 km² is covered by water and 15,173 km² is land.

Inari Municipality arranges other services, including consumer advice, holiday substitute services (such as for farmers) and fire and rescue services; recreational amenities and activities include the Ivalo sports hall and youth centre, sports fields, swimming pool, clubs, a media communications workshop for young people, places for young bands to practice and the Aslak Cinema in Ivalo.
