We selected our ideal retirement home 20 years ago because of a location that provides
a climate of eternal springtime. It never gets very hot or cold and the air is always
property is just a bit under one acre and is located on the side of the great
dormant volcano Pichincha at about 7,700 feet above sea level and about 15 miles south
of the Equator. The great Quito Valley containing the country`s capital city is above us
and the long Tumbaco Valley with a new airport is below us. We are one mile from the
new airport expressway. The drive up to Quito is only about 9 miles but as much of it is
vertical as is horizontal. We are outside a small, but growing town called Cumbayá. The
house has four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths as well as a separate guest house with two
bedrooms and a bath. There is also a Jacuzzi and Turkish Bath. A very large, covered,
solar-heated swimming pool also has a bath and small dressing room. The previous
owner was in the rose exporting business and left us a large rose garden and roses
abound all over the property. We have added many other flowers and plants of all kinds
plus two small vegetable gardens and various fruit trees. There are two large shopping
centers, a new hospital and all other possible businesses, restaurants, banks, etc., in our
valley so that it is rarely necessary to go up to Quito. The once rural surrounding area is
being developed to provide an even closer business center and a large public park is
planned above the property.
