Location Nyumbu Camp ( .maasaimara-nyumbu ) is located on a 35 acre leased land in the Ngila Plains at the edge of Maasai Mara Game Reserve overlooking magnificent view of hills and plains in a prime wildlife area (near Talek Gate). Game viewing starts right from the camp itself and the location is ideal to experience the wildebeest migration.

Land Nyumbu Camp is located on a 35 acre leased land. Currently renewed for one more year from
01st Sept 2008 but Can be renewed for further years easily.

Access By air: A scheduled one hour flight from Nairobi`s Wilson Airport to Ol Kiombo airstrip. Air Kenya & Safarilink fly twice a day: - morning flights departing at 10h00 (10 a.m.), afternoon at 15h00 (3 pm). A daily service from Mombasa departs at 0730 and leaves the Mara at 1330. There are daily services from Naivasha at 1500 (3pm) and Nanyuki departing 10h00 (10 a.m) and also from Samburu departing 0915. The camp is a 30 minute game drive from the airstrip (23 kms) at the edge of Odonyo Olip escarpment

Description The Eco-camp is intimate, and completely unfenced, accommodating a maximum of only 26 guests (total 18 tents – 13 for clients and 5 for driver-guides and tour leaders), under canvas. It`s fully hosted by trained professionals from local community. There are 3 types of tents see below

Rates & Park fees Maasa Mara National reserve (2.5kms away) park fees and conservancy fees need to be paid.

Accommodation The eco-camp have medium sized, fully insect-proof custom designed tents, equipped with proper beds, linen, bedside tables, and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with hot shower and eco-toilet – some have flushing toilets. There are safari chairs on the veranda of each tent.

Game drives can be done in Nyumbu Trust Conservancy, MMNR or Olare Orok Conservancy – 2008 $40 per person per day and 2009 onwards $60 per person per day

Meals and Drinks Most meals are taken al-fresco or our open sided dining/ lounge mess half tent. We have a fully stocked bar with a range of drinks.

Staff: A total of 23 staff including the manager

Business: Provided by Overseas tour operators and local – nature expeditions, Grand Circle etc

Laundry Laundry service can be provided at minimum cost. Please note this is a bush laundry not suitable for delicate items of clothing. Clients are advised to bring safari wear to last for duration of their stay.


Eco-friendly Power & Lights There is no mains power however we do have 24-hour power supply in the tents and key areas for lighting through integrated solar system (Batteries can also be charged on this system), and our refrigeration unit uses gas.

Children We accept children but adults must be aware that our camp is not fenced and no additional facilities are available to occupy them outside our normal excursions. No baby equipment is provided.

Safety Safety is of paramount importance and therefore guards patrol the camp on 24/7 basis. Guests are asked to remain in their tent after dark, and will be escorted between their tent and the lounge/dining areas by a guards. Each tent is equipped with a whistle to call for assistance in case of emergency. Flying Doctors can be radioed in the event of an emergency, but each individual client is advised to purchase the membership. Despite the camp having its own various insurance policies in place, we recommend guests to have Personal insurance covering all types of risk.

Walking & other activities We offer a wide range of activities from the camp and rates are available from the booking office e.g escorted nature sundowners, balloon ride, fishing trip to Lake Victoria etc. Despite the camp having its own various insurance policies in place, we recommend guests to have Personal insurance covering all types of risk.
Social Responsibility
& Environment The Eco-camp believes in adding value to the local community and it uplifts their standards in
the following ways:- Water supply: provisions of clean water from our borehole,
Cultural village:- All clients staying at the camp visit and support Olepolos Maasai village
through contributions to their desire projects; Employment: 90% of staff working at the camp is
from the local community; Nyumbu Trust conservancy: The camp have concession of just
over 1000 acres owned by 14 landowners which benefit directly through conservancy fees and
owners take of environmentissues at all levels – interaction between people, livestock and
wildlife.
