HISTORICAL NEWS

The first reliable and documented Pratariccia date back to the tenth or eleventh century, but we know that the entire area had been inhabited by the Etruscans from the sixth century. B.C. and whose presence is known because it was precisely documented by archaeological findings in the `Lake of the Idols` located on Mount Falterona which is right in front of Pratariccia on the opposite bank of the river Arno.
In `Lake of the Idols` were found remains of bronze votive etruscan statuettes that various deities.
In the nineteenth century the most valuable pieces were ceded to the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. At the British Museum are still visible four bronzes full-length, one head and two votive limbs, and five bronzes in the Louvre in full figure.
In the Middle Ages, the Conti Guidi obtaining welfare occupied the territory and power. Their job was done by various types of buildings such as castles and / or simple fortifications. On Pratariccia built a castle fortress, of which some parts are still visible and incorporated into later buildings, for Conti Guidi was the meeting of their prime hunting territory. In fact, the Leopold land of 17 century place names him back again under the name `Castle of Pratariccia`.
