When outsiders think of the Kalahari, the image they generally have is the red sands of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. But locals know it as a vast flatland of spectacular thunder-storms, old fashioned villages, and friendly folk and when the rain comes, blizzards of butterflies. What makes this unique is the rare opportunity to meet and explore this remarkable environment with bushman of the San peoples, one of the oldest cultures in Africa.

Exploring the bush on foot, while the Bushmen will teach you of their hunting and survival skills their culture and crafts of the San people, who over the centuries have adapted their lives to survive in the most inhospitable environment of them all. Comfort set in vibrant and rustic colored interiors, the lodge accommodates up to sixteen people on a sharing basis. The lodge is private and restful.

Bush land stretching for miles. Each unit stands separately, on stilts connected with the main lodge by wooden walkways.
The main complex boasts a dining room, lounge and bar area decorated in warm Kalahari colours making use of Bushmen and other African artecrafts. From the deck you can view activities at the nearby waterhole. The décor has an ethnic African theme and was build to fit into the surrounding bush without altering, damaging or detracting from its ambience and colour.
A swimming pool situated close to the main complex. The boma features prominently during the African nights where you can enjoy dinner while gazing across a clear night sky.
Chalets:
6 of 8 chalets consist of luxury twin bedded rooms with en-suite Victorian style bathroom, an outside shower and a private spacious lounge. There is also a chalet with 2 inter-leading rooms for families. For your convenience a hairdryer, shaving plugs and bathrobe is standard. All units are fitted with ceiling fans and mosquito nets. A private mini-bar will ensure your comfort during an afternoon siesta. After a night-cap, turn in for a peaceful sleep nestled among the comfortable and safe surroundings of the lodge.
Game:
Kalahari Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Giraffe, Kudu and if lucky, the elusive brown hyena, Eland, Wildebeest, Oryx, Ostrich, Steenbok and lots of other small game species. Its a bird lover`s paradise.
The Kalahari has no seasons. Instead there are three distinct phases: the rains, which may commence anytime from November to January, and last through to March, April, making the Kalahari a birder`s paradise
A cold dry spell follows from June to August. And the hot dry spells lasts from September until the rains start.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve:
This property is situated on the North-eastern boarder of the Central Kalahari Game Resrve. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (52 000m²) is the second largest game reserve in the world. It is home to large animal populations. The department of wildlife and national parks does not wish to allow the development of lodges within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve but wishes to keep it as a true wilderness area.
Landscape:
In the southern Kalahari area the sand lies in distinct linear dunes. These dunes are covered in grass, shrubs and trees. In contrast with true sand deserts, the sand in the Kalahari is stabilized by vegetation.

Rainfall:
Although the Kalahari is generally seen as a desert, it is in actual fact e semi-arid savannah, with average rainfall at the lodge of 300mm per annum.
Rainfall is one of the main ecological driving forces in this area. It determines the quantity of plant growth produced each year and the amount of food for game. The quantity and destribution of rainfall through the wet periods is also important. If for example it rains early in the seaso certain grass and tree species are favoured. Should it rain at a later stage totally different species are favoured and this phenomena will give the eco-tourist a totally different experience of the Kalahari every season.
Climate:
The best time to visit Botswana is from April to October, when the days are sunny and warm; around 25ºC. Evening temperatures drop sharply to as low as 5 ºC. During the summer months, November to March, temperatures can rise to over 40ºC and usually drops to 25ºC at night.
Plant growth:
The waving landscapes consist of vast sand dunes. Between the dunes one encounters low lying areas with small pans. The bigger trees are found on top of the sand and around the pans. The most important large trees in this area are Acasia luederitzii, Terminalia prunioides and Boscia albitrunca.
Grass cover:
The grass cover in the Kalahari is abundant and important after rain.

Private Airstrip
A private airstrip registered with the Civil Aviation Authorities of Botswana. 1.1km long and 18m wide in-between the markers.

Power
All electrical power to the main building and chalets are provided by a 65kw generator. The generator loads 144 x 12V batteries. The generator runs for 5hours a day in order to power deep freezers, fridges and laundry. During this period the battery pack is charged by the generator as well. For the rest of the day power is supplied by the battery pack through an inverter taking 12V to 220V. Therefore the lodge supplies 24hours electricity to all facilities. This system reduces carbon output from the generator from only 5 hours to 24 hours in order to have a cleaner environment. This also reduces noise pollution as it`s fixed in a silent pack unit.

Water Supply
Fresh water to supply the lodge comes out a borehole and piped along 16km 50mm PVC pipeline to the reservoirs situated 1km from the main lodge. The borehole is 100m deep with a water table at 80m. The yield of the boreholes is 2500litres per hour it`s driven by a 1 cylinder diesel engine and fills the reservoirs in about 12 hours. The borehole is equipped with Mono equipment. The freshwater is piped via gravity feed to the main lodge, chalets, staff camp and the waterhole In front of the lodge. The waterhole in front of the lodge attracts a lot of wildlife activity. B The use of water is strictly monitored for guests as well as animals to a quantity of not more than 5000l a day.

Staff Accommodation
Staffs are accommodated in a staff village 1km west of the lodge.
16 rooms, 4 bathrooms and running water and water heating system supplied.
A communal staff kitchen is available to all staff not taking meals at the lodge.

Ann additional Luxury Farmhouse

This is a private facility with 2 en-suite bedrooms (1 x Double Bedroom and 1 x Twin Bedroom) each has its own spacious en-suite bathroom with individual facilities for him and her. Two splash showers (his and hers) a stylish and spacious bath.

A spacious lounge with a dining area and fire place and a kitchen
On balmy summer evenings meals are enjoyed under the African sky in a traditional boma area. On colder winter`s evening crystal, silver and bone china set the scene for a three course feast in front of the open fireplace. Brunch is usually enjoyed on the spacious veranda while steenbuck and kudu join the warthogs at the waterhole a short distance away.
